Ways To Raise Beef

Because How Animals Are Raised Matters

Not all beef is raised the same way—and that’s a good thing! When it comes to raising beef cattle, there’s no one-size-fits-all approach. Just like families and farms, every method comes with its own set of values, challenges, and intentions. At Wright Land & Cattle Co., we believe it’s important to share the different ways beef is raised so you can feel informed, confident, and connected to the food you choose to bring into your home.

Grass-Finished Beef

These animals spend their entire lives on grass, grazing on open pastures and never receiving grain. It’s a slower process, but many people appreciate that it mirrors the animal’s natural diet.

Why people choose it:

  • Cattle are raised in wide open spaces with room to roam
  • No grain, no confinement
  • Leans toward a simpler, more traditional system

Things to consider:

  • The beef is leaner with a stronger, grassier flavor
  • Takes longer to reach finishing weight
  • Can be less consistent in texture or tenderness

Pasture-Raised, Grain Finished

This method is common on small family farms. Cattle are raised outdoors with plenty of space, fresh air, and grass under their feet. During the final 3–4 months, they’re given access to grain (in addition to pasture) to enhance marbling and tenderness.

Why people choose it:

  • Supports a humane, low-stress environment
  • Produces beautifully marbled, flavorful beef
  • Offers a balance of animal welfare and culinary quality

Things to consider:

  • Grain is a finishing tool, not the foundation of their life
  • Still requires thoughtful feed sourcing

All Natural

These cattle are raised without the use of growth-promoting hormones and are never routinely given antibiotics. If an animal becomes sick, it is treated compassionately—but removed from any beef program labeled “antibiotic-free.”

Why people choose it:

  • Aligns with health-conscious and clean-label values
  • Encourages thoughtful, intentional animal care
  • Often paired with pasture-based or regenerative systems

Things to consider:

  • The term “natural” is not tightly regulated—ask questions

Certified Organic Beef

These animals are raised on certified organic land, fed 100% organic feed, and never given antibiotics or synthetic hormones. It’s a USDA-regulated, rigorous program that requires detailed documentation and third-party audits.

Why people choose it:

  • High trust factor and clear standards
  • Emphasis on organic inputs and environmental health

Things to consider:

  • Higher cost due to certification and organic feed
  • May not always mean more space or better welfare (organic ≠ pasture-raised)

At Wright Land & Cattle Co., we believe in raising beef with honesty, empathy, and transparency. Our cattle are born and raised on pasture, with plenty of space to graze, roam, and rest. We use grain finishing as a tool to enhance flavor—never as a replacement for good care. We never use growth-promoting hormones and only use antibiotics when truly necessary, following strict protocols and proper withdrawal times. We don’t cut corners. We don’t rush the process. And we don’t believe in keeping customers in the dark.

Whether you buy from us or another farm, you deserve to know how your food is raised. If you have questions or concerns, we welcome them with open arms. Because the best food comes from farmers who care.
